Welcome to Denver, the vibrant capital and largest city of Colorado, affectionately known as the “Mile High City” for its remarkable elevation exactly one mile above sea level — that’s 1,609 metres for those more familiar with the metric system. Nestled in the South Platte River Valley at the western edge of the High Plains and just east of the towering Front Range of the Rocky Mountains, Denver offers an enviable lifestyle for lovers of the great outdoors, with easy access to world-class ski resorts and mountain adventures.
With a population of just over 715,000, Denver ranks as the 19th largest city in the United States, while the greater metropolitan area is home to more than 3 million people. Its unique blend of natural beauty, rich history, and vibrant culture makes it a must-visit destination for travellers.
Our walking tour begins in the heart of downtown Denver, surrounded by the city’s bustling financial district. From here, we head toward the Denver Civic Center, home to several of the city’s most iconic and historic buildings. Among them are the striking Colorado State Capitol, the Denver City and County Building, and the United States Mint. The area is also rich in cultural attractions, with fascinating museums located just steps away.
Next, we make our way to Empower Field at Mile High, one of the most impressive NFL stadiums in the country and the proud home of the Denver Broncos. From there, our route takes us past popular family attractions such as the Downtown Aquarium and the seasonal Elitch Gardens Theme and Water Park. Continuing on, we stroll through scenic Confluence Park along the Platte River, a peaceful spot where the city meets the outdoors, before joining the Cherry Creek Trail — a favourite with walkers and cyclists alike.
Our path leads us back into downtown, where we explore the beautifully restored Denver Union Station, a grand transportation hub that also serves as a vibrant dining and shopping destination. Finally, we finish our tour at the lively 16th Street Mall, a pedestrian-friendly thoroughfare lined with shops, restaurants, and entertainment venues, making it the beating heart of Denver’s social life.
From its impressive landmarks and museums to its scenic parks and buzzing downtown, Denver offers an unforgettable walking experience that captures the essence of this mountain city. Whether you’re drawn by its rich history, outdoor lifestyle, or cultural attractions, Denver delivers a perfect mix of adventure and urban charm.
