After an almost 4 year hiatus Victorians will be pleased to hear the announcement that Singapore Airlines are bringing their flagship Airbus A380 aircraft to some of there services between Melbourne and Singapore from May 16th through to October 28th next year.
From May 16th, Singapore Airlines will operate one of its four daily return services between the two cities with the superjumbo service being flight SQ228 departing Melbourne at 3.40pm arriving into Singapore at 9.30pm. The return service will be wheels up out of Changi at 12.25am before arriving in Melbourne at 9.50am.
The other 3 services are all operated on separate aircraft including one return service each on a Boeing 777-300ER, Airbus A350-900 Long Haul and a Airbus A350-900 Medium Haul. Especially if flying in a premium class it is important to pay consideration when choosing your flight number with so many different cabin products on offer on this route.
Melbourne is not just the only Australian city seeing Singapore Airlines A380 action with Sydneysiders set to see the airline double its A380 services from the current 1 daily service to 2 from May 17th next year. This means Sydney to Singapore will then be serviced with 4 daily return services by Singapore Airlines of which 2 are on Airbus A380 with the other two being serviced by a Boeing 777-300ER and a Airbus A350-900 long-haul.
The new aircraft changes by Singapore Airlines will mean more opportunities for Sydneysiders and Melbournians to fly premium over the peak European peak summer season with a whopping 78 business class seats on the A380 superjumbos along with a dedicated premium economy and its flagship First Class Suites.
The restructure by Singapore Airlines signals the airlines closely honing on returning to pre pandemic level traffic with the Melbourne route alone also expected to soon exceed its pre-Covid seat capacity to Melbourne, operating at 110%.
