Where is the Qantas Club Located?
The Qantas Club is located in Terminal 4 at Perth Airport. After clearing secuirty you’ll find yourself in the main departures circuit whereby you then take the escalators up to the enterance of the lounge. Depending on your status and if you are flying business you could also be eligible to use the more premium Qantas Business Lounge in the same terminal which is at the concourse level and to the right of this lounge. It pays to check which lounge(s) you are eligible for.
Those flying on Jetstar or some regional Qantas flights operating out of the adjoining Terminal 3 need to not worry however as the terminals are linked airside via a secure passage way so eligible passengers flying from Terminal 3 can still use the lounge. We’d recommend clearing security at the Terminal 4 end of the terminal before proceeding to Terminal 3 after using the lounge or otherwise you can walk back from Terminal 3 once airside.
Who Can Access the Lounge and When is it Open?
Due to the opening of the neighboring Qantas Business Lounge in Perth, The Qantas Club now predominately caters towards economy class passengers who are either Qantas Gold or Qantas Club members or those with other certain frequent flyer status including:
Qantas Club (+1 guest)
Qantas Gold (+1 guest)
Oneworld Sapphire (+1 guest).
Emirates Skywards Gold (+1 guest).
Air New Zealand Gold (+1 guest, and must be on an NZ flight number).
China Eastern Miles Gold (+1 guest)
Alaskan Airlines Lounge (+2 Guests)
American Airlines Admirals Club (+2 guests)
As with most Qantas Club’s opening hours this lounge is open daily from one hour before each Qantas operated service until the last Qantas departure. For Perth standards you can therefore typically expect the lounge to be open from around 5am to midnight daily.
Lounge Design and Seating
The Qantas Club in Perth is definitely one of the larger Qantas lounges and bigger than one may expect. This is probably due to the reality that Perth Airport didn’t have a dedicated Qantas Business Lounge prior to 2015. Overall this is a very solid Qantas Club in terms of its layout and design with a good variety of seating options which will be sure to suffice for those looking to work or relax.
Upon proceeding into the lounge past the reception you’ll notice the elevated and curvature design of the lounge which offers great natural light and some of the best views of the tarmac that you’ll see from any lounge in Australia. The floor to ceiling windows really offer some great plane viewing especially when a line up of Qantas widebodies are in town. Whilst the seating is certainly designed to cater towards large crowds the lounge didn’t seem to have any trouble in comfortably accommodating the busy Wednesday morning crowds on our visit.
Food and Beverage
Self Service Buffet
Food available for the late Wednesday morning departures over east consisted of an assisted self serve buffet serving popular continental and hot English breakfast favorites in addition to barista made coffee freely doing the rounds. With the Qantas Club being in the lowest tier of Qantas Lounges operated at Perth Airport the offering and variety of the food options isn’t quite as extensive as the nearby Business Lounge but is more than adequate and certainly in line with what economy class passengers at a Qantas Club would expect.
The Bar and Barista Station
Unfortunately, unlike it its international counterparts alcoholic bar service is not available around the clock and does not commence to 12pm. For those that don’t mind having a cheeky morning beer or glass of sparkling this might be disappointing but this is the norm for domestic Australian lounges. For those arriving at the the lounge after noon however expect a reasonably well stocked tendered bar with several wines on offer. A selection of popular beers and spirits are also available.
Soft drinks, juices, sparkling and mineral water are also scattered around the lounge and there is also a tendered barista station which does a good job of attending to any pre-flight caffeine craves.
Service and Staff
With such a big Qantas Club in Perth, the airline does well to keep the lounge well staffed and serviced. Upon entry staff will promptly greet you were you can either self scan in or get them to manually process you in. Most notably there is an assisted buffet and tendered bar and also a barista station. Service staff did well to regularly replenish the food and drinks options whilst cleaning staff were spotted often sanitizing and clearing tables and keeping the amenities in good condition. Good work Qantas here!
Lounge Amenities
Whilst the Qantas Club doesn’t quite have the exclusive feel of the nearby Business Lounge it still ticks most of the all important boxes when it comes to amenities.
The bathroom area appeared to be well serviced and was kept clean during our visit. Showers which are contained in a separate room were also in good condition.
The WIFI appeared to work well in the lounge and was perfectly adequate for doing most everyday tasks before your flight . Access to charging ports were available in the lounge but there not available in all locations so if you need them be sure to check first before settling in. The lounge also has a magazine rack which provides a range of literature and newspapers and also the QANTAS Magazine for those who fancy an old fashioned read before or on their flight.
Summing Up
The Qantas Club in Perth is a really solid performer amongst Qantas’s extensive Club Lounge Network. For most travelers it provides a perfectly serviceable place to spend before a flight and ticks all the key important boxes for what an economy class passenger would expect in a lounge. A key highlight is the commanding views that the lounge offers of the tarmac and for plane spotting enthusiasts the Qantas Club in Perth might just be reason for even Business Lounge passengers to duck over for a look!
