In a stunning turn of events Australia’s national carrier Qantas has completed a stunning turnaround taking it from worst airline in the country for cancellations to the best and overtaking REX who previously hold top spot. The latest report released by the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communication and the Arts (BRITE) for the month of October saw Qantas’s cancellation rate plummeting to just 1.2% well down on its horror peak of 8.2% in June 2022.
The report also noted that Qantas and Qantas Link topped the table for on time performance at 74.2% for on-time arrivals and 73.9% for on-time departures well ahead of the overall average of 69.3% and 68.5% respectively across all airlines surveyed (Jetstar, Qantas and Qantas Link, REX and Virgin Australia and Virgin Australia Regional Airlines
Overall whilst it is good news across the board in terms of airline on-time performance and cancellation rates compared to earlier in the year when the Australian aviation industry struggled to rebound admid high demand and staffing shortages it is important to note on-time performance is still lagging significantly behind the pre corvid averages that were typically between 80 and 90% across the board.
