Join us for a very special and unique travel experience from spectacular Sri Lanka as we embark on what is widely regarded to be amongst the most beautiful and scenic train journeys in the world from Sri Lanka’s highest city of Nuwara Eliya to the beautiful highland retreat town of Ella.

One of the most remarkable things about this journey besides the sheer beautiful scenery that the journey takes us through is the price with most tickets only costing a few dollars and first class barely much more putting this train journey in the extraordinary position of being grouped with some of the most expensive and luxurious train journeys that money can buy! Sri Lanka’s iconic Podi Menike ‘Blue Train’ that we are travelling on today originates in Colombo Fort Station and travels on a slow going and often heavily delayed but epic 10 hour 300km odd voyage to Badulla through the interior of the country passing notable destinations such as Kandy, Nuwara Eliya (Nanu Oya) and Ella along the way.

In today’s journey we take the train on what is a typically 3-4 hour journey on what is usually considered the most breathtaking part of the journey which takes us on a spectacular journey through the heart of Sri Lanka’s temperate lush, beautiful and dramatically cooler highlands and tea plantations. Along the way we also stop at Pattipola railway station which is the highest https://www.youtube.com/@AussieJetSetter/UCECWTQ40_l4oc6VFtl92rKA%3Estation in the country coming in at an altitude of 1,8987.5m. What adds the the amazing scenery is the open air carriages of the train which only go to amplify the enjoyment of travelling through he cool lush climates of the Sri Lankan highlands which approach nearly 2000m in altitude!.

So this train journey needs no formal introduction and spoiler alert it is so good that this one is best to just sit back relax and enjoy so come join me as I capture all the best moments of the epic journey in comprehensive detail!
