Where is the Jewel Changi Airport Lounge Located?

As the title of the Lounge itself implies, the Jewel Changi Airport Lounge is located in the Jewel Changi shopping complex which is immediately adjacent to Terminal 1. This means technically this lounge is not even located within Changi Airport’s terminal buildings itself which also means it is not airside. You’ll find Changi Lounge on Level 1 of the massive Jewel Shopping Complex near the lift Lobby E and is conveniently located next to the early check in counters at the complex.

This means the lounge is strategically well placed for those arriving especially early for their flights who can take advantage of early check (with select airlines such as Singapore Airlines and Qantas) and some more retail therapy if the the Lion city hasn’t already given you enough off! With the Jewel complex being located immediately after exiting Terminal 1 customs and immigration this lounge can also be lucrative options as a post-arrival lounge for those wishing to freshen up with a coffee an shower after a long overnight fights and early arrival.

Who Can Access the Changi Lounge and When is it Open?

Changi Lounge is unfortunately no longer open 24/7 with opening hours from 8am to 10pm 7 days a week with last orders being taken at 9pm. As a publicly accessible lounge it means you can visit regardless of what airline or class of travel. In-fact you don’t even need to be travelling if paying for public access maybe you just wan’t a place to recuperate after shopping up a storm at Jewel!

The great news if for those with Priority Pass, Lounge Key and Dragon Pass your membership is accepted here although you do need either a same day arriving or departing boarding pass. Upon presentation of my Lounge Key card I was entitled to 1 hot meal, 1 beer and also a shower visit. If you however are having to pay per visit with your membership it may be worth accessing your options as there are plenty of arguably better lounges airside.

Lounge Design and Seating

Upon first entering the lounge, it is clear that this is going to be a quiet and restful place to have lunch and kill some time before heading over to Terminal 1 to head airside for my flight with Qantas back to Perth (I was at the airport around 6 hours early)

The lounge itself seems spacious, reasonably modern and has a great range of seating styles and options sure to cater to a range of travellers whether they are there to relax or work. The lounge design itself is pretty much one big room but with several zones within it which also has a centrally located snack and non-alcoholic drinks stations behind the reception. There is also asmall tendered bar area adjacent to the shower suites which also doubles to act as the place where you order and collect meals from the limited al’ carte menu.

Unfortunately there is limited natural lightning in the lounge not even looking back towards the shopping centre and of course not being located inside the terminals itself there is no tarmac views here!

Food and Beverage

Self Service Food and A la carte dining

Unfortunately food and beverage is not a strong point for this lounge and with a confusing array of rules as to what is included and what is chargeable is made even more confusing by your entry means coming with different inclusions. In terms of what is complimentary for all there is a small free flow snack bar which is nothing more than some minor snacks and if you are lucky a few hot pastries. For those looking for something more substantial you can order from the bar where there was four main items to choose from with those entering through a lounge scheme getting 1 complimentary meal. Those entering with paid access may have to pay additionally depending on their entry tier.

Anyway I ordered the lasange and it wasn’t anything special to be honest and the fact that you were given a buzzer and had to collect it from the counter didn’t give the best vibes of what you expect from a premium lounge experience.

Self Service Drinks and tendered bar

All self service drinks are thankfully complimentary to all those visiting the lounge but the range isn’t that great to be honest. No soda fountains here and just several varieties of south drink are available -mainly of the Coca Cola variety. Two self service coffee machines are available which made an acceptable latte for a city which is otherwise not world renowned for its coffee standards!

For those entering with a longe scheme or with a more inclusive paid package you do get access to alcohol but only just in the form of 1 beer token which can be exchanged for either a Tiger Beer or Tiger Beer. Wines, spirits or anything else costs extra for all visitors and prices are steep in line with what you would pay for at downtown Singapore bars. This is not going to be the lounge for getting tipsy before your flight not that we would ever advocate that is a good idea!

Service and Staff

Most interactions with staff at the lounge were mainly relegated to the reception where they were friendly and quickly processed my Lounge Key access so no complaints there. The bar area itself didn’t seem overly well staffed and the ordering system for main meals seemed a little bit fast food for what I dare say is promoted as a premium lounge so that was a little disappointing. Other than that the lounge was kept clean and tables frequently cleared so no complaints in this regard.

Lounge Amenities

Amenities is one area where this lounge certainly improves with most of the modern comforts and features you would expect from a good lounge. Shower suites are available, in addition to business facilities and plentiful USB and AC charging ports available. Wifi seemed to be reasonable speeds but not noticeably discernible from the already good quality wifi present through Changi Airport and Jewel.

One let down for the lounge is lack of restrooms for those not utilsiing the shower facilities so you’ll have to duck out into the main shopping centre. No deal breaker but still possibly a little disappointing for a lounge with reasonably steep paid entry fees.

Summing Up

In summing up the Changi Jewel Lounge it is first important to remember that this is quite a unique lounge in itself as it is not even located within the airport terminal let alone airside. Don’t be fooled however it is more than serviceable for those travelling into and out of Singapore especially for those travelling out of the adjacent Terminal 1 or whom can take advantage of early check in at Jewel. From far as I understand the lounge is not hired for use by any of the airlines so with access largely coming from lounge scheme members and the paying public it is likely to continue to remain an uncrowded relaxing place to rest especially after a fight but certainly possibly before a flight too.

Whilst the lounge itself has plenty of comfortable seating arrangement what does however let it down is its free food and beverage which is limited at best although that extends slightly better for those entitled to 1 free beer and a hot meal. Whilst it can be understood with certain Priority Pass lounges that premium dining and beverage options cost more the fact that you have to pay extra for most standard drinks is disappointing.

Ultimately, this lounge is well worth considering a visit if your journey through Singapore Changi Airport is either starting or ending at the Changi Jewel. If you can get free entry through Priority Pass or Lounge Key it is well worth checking out as somewhere to freshen up on arrival after a long flight to Singapore or perhaps as somewhere to recuperate and a grab a bite to eat whilst shopping up a storm before your flight out. That being said however there are more inclusive and premium feeling Priority Pass lounges airside at Changi so I wouldn’t spend all my time here and I would be hard found by to find value and reluctant to pay for entry either through Priority Pass or public entry.
