In great news for Victorian holiday makers Jetstar have announced that they are launching a three times weekly direct service between Melbourne and Nadi Fiji which will start in time ahead of the popular summer school holiday period on from 16 December 2023.
The new service will be operated by the airline’s state-of-the-art, quieter and more fuel-efficient Airbus A321neo LR which will operate three times a week and offering up a capacity of up to 72,000 customers to the South Pacific nation each year.
It is actually the first time a low-cost carrier has offered non-stop flights from Melbourne to Fiji although to support the operation Jetstar’s flights between Sydney and Fiji will change to 3 times weekly also from 16th December. The flip side of this is that the Sydney to Fiji flights will also be upgraded to A321neo aircraft.
Jetstar’s Chief Customer Officer, Alan McIntyre, said now Melburnians can access great low fares and a non-stop service to Fiji.
“Since relaunching our Sydney to Fiji services, we’ve seen strong demand from Melbourne travellers, and from December they will be able to fly direct,” Mr McIntyre said.
“Fiji is a hugely popular destination for Australians, and with interest continuing to grow, we’re offering more than 70,000 great low fares seats each year between Melbourne and Fiji.
“We thank Melbourne Airport for its support of the new route.”
Melbourne Airport Chief of Aviation, Jim Parashos, said he was pleased Jetstar was introducing flights to Fiji.
“Travel demand to tropical destinations like Fiji is an at all time high since international borders reopened,” Mr Parashos said.
“Many Victorians are seeking a warmer climate and cultural experiences with short travel times, and now thanks to Jetstar’s low fares there’s even more reason to travel to the South Pacific Islands.”
“Melbourne is Australia’s largest city by population, and we’re glad to see Jetstar recognise our strong outbound demand by adding more capacity.”
