Exploring New Zealand’s historic old capital of Russell with AussieJetSetter!

Thesedays a popular tourist spot for visitors embarking on cruises throughout the wider Bay of Islands, Russell has a fascinating history as the site of catholic missionieres introduced to the country and also as a major site in the Flagstaff War in the Battle of Kororāreka. Interestingly it was the first permentetely inhabited European settlment, first capital and seaport in New Zealand and plenty of historical buildings to match and a strong Maritime history of trade between the Maori and Europeans.

Today the the town has a vibrant cafe culture and plenty of musuems, historical buildings and attractions along with a stunning foreshore overlooking the Bay of Islands which will all be shown in this walking tour!
