In a long awaited announcement and after series of false starts, Japanese Airline All Nippon Airways have finally confirmed that they will be returning to the Perth to Tokyo Narita route with the first flight scheduled for 29th October this year. According to ANA’s recent FY2023 plan the Perth to Tokyo Route is now back on the agenda for the northern hemisphere winter although it states that details on ticket sales will follow soon.
The route was first served by Qantas in the early 2000s before being discontinued leaving Perthities the best part of a decade without any direct options to fly to Japan. However in September 2019 Japan’s All Nippon Airlines (ANA) entered the Perth market for the first time offering a hugely popular daily service between Perth and Tokyo Narita utilizing its Boeing 787-8 aircraft. Unfortunately these flights were discontinued in early 2022 after Australia shut its borders to international visitors and imposed harsh 14 day hotel quarantine on returning Australian citizens
In a press release WA Premier Mark McGowan commented that “I’m pleased I was able to meet with All Nippon Airways today after they confirmed they would be bringing back flights between Tokyo to Perth later this year.
“The connection will prove invaluable not only for Western Australia’s tourism sector, but also for trade, industry and international education.
“I will continue to explore opportunities to strengthen the Western Australian economy as I meet with a number of key government and business partners in Japan and South Korea.”
Additionally, WA Tourism Minister Roger Cook noted
“The WA Government looks forward to the return of All Nippon Airways to Perth later this year which coincides with a popular time of year for Japanese visitors to travel to our state.
“ANA is an important airline partner and Japan is a significant visitor market for Western Australia, representing our eighth largest international market by number of visitors.
“We are committed to working with ANA to build on opportunities from the return of this important route which further strengthens Western Australia’s reputation as the nation’s Western Gateway.”
Previously ANA’s Perth to Tokyo-Narita service left Perth at 9.45pm before arriving into Tokyo at 8.25am the next morning whilst the inbound flight was wheels up from Narita at 11.15am for a leisurely afternoon flight to Perth landing some 10 hours later around 8.15pm. Whilst flights are yet to go on sale nor the schedule officially confirm it is expected the airline will keep the same timing.
AussieJetSetter will be sure to keep you updated on any further updates about the relaunch of this route.
